The Department of Psychology, School of Social Sciences at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Delhi NCR, in partnership with the National Institute of Social Defence Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is delighted to announce the organization of a two-day State/Regional Conference on Fostering Intergenerational Connections: Successful Aging and Gerontology. As the world observes a striking change in the demographics of older adults due to increased life expectancy, technological advancements, rapid urbanization or globalization, and migration from rural to urban areas for better opportunities, a significant impact is observed on social, cultural, economic, and psychological domains of older adults. This conference aims to bring together scholars, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and advocates from diverse backgrounds to explore and promote comprehensive approaches to explore demographic shifts in the global population with respect to aging and facilitate the amalgamation of cutting-edge research findings, evidence-based practices, and theoretical frameworks related to aging. It would also promote a collaborative space for bridging the gap between academic research in various interdisciplinary areas exploring the opportunities and challenges, innovative approaches, and various interventions in the area of Gerontology attempting to promote a holistic solution towards successful aging. The conference features keynote addresses by distinguished experts, plenary sessions, panel discussions, paper presentations, and interactive workshops. Networking opportunities will enable attendees to engage in fruitful discussions and collaboration.

CHRIST (Deemed to be University) was born out of the educational vision of St Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the founder of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate, an educationist and social reformer of the nineteenth century in South India. Established in 1969 as Christ College, it undertook path-breaking initiatives in Indian higher education with the introduction of innovative and modern curricula, insistence on academic discipline, imparting of Holistic Education, and adoption of global higher education practices with the support of creative and dedicated staff.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY


The Department of Psychology at Christ University, one of the first departments established, has thrived through innovative teaching and a commitment to excellence. Its mission is to uphold academic excellence in psychology, create an enriching learning environment, promote personal and professional growth, and meet societal needs. The department offers diverse programs, including certificates, and undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. degrees, fostering self-awareness, service orientation, and humane values in students.  The Department of Psychology at the Delhi-NCR campus is functioning under the School of Sciences in CHRIST (Deemed to be University). Established in the year 2019, the department has representation of faculty from all cultures and regions in India with qualifications from the top institutions in the country. Together with rich experience in teaching, research, and consultancy, they specialize in Social Psychology, Positive Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, scale constructions, and so on. The department offers doctoral programs, and post-graduate programs in the area of clinical and counselling psychology along with undergraduate programs. ABOUT NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL DEFENSE

The National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) is the nodal training and research institute in the field of Social Defence. NISD is currently focusing on human resource development in the areas of drug abuse prevention, the welfare of senior citizens, transgender welfare, and beggary prevention. The National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) was set up originally as the Central Bureau of Correctional Services in 1961, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, in pursuance of the recommendation emerging at various National Forums in 1964, the Bureau was transferred to the department of social security. Since 1975 the institute has been a subordinate office under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. The National Institute of Social Defence has become an Autonomous Body vide Government of India Notification No 10-3/2000-SD. Vol.II dated 15th July 2002 and is registered under Societies Act XXI of 1860 with the Government of NCT, Delhi. The vision of NISD has been to foster public sensitivity to issues related to marginalized sections including old age and victims of substance abuse and in pursuit of strengthening effective service delivery. NISD has charted its mission as one of enhancing the capacities of service providers and wider dissemination of information in the field of old age care, victims of substance abuse and other Social Defence issues through training, research and documentation.
